Lesbian Love Affair Leads to Murder
It was an unusual neighborhood feud in the Little Haiti section of Miami that went on for more than five years -- but, it wasn't always that way.
Sam and Sherly Pierre lived next door to Emmana Michel for most of their lives. They went to school together, played football and attended local parties. They were the best of friends.
As adults, they drifted apart, but were friendly when they had time. That is, until something unexpected happened.
Emmana Michel was dating a woman whom he had a child with, but the relationship had been broken off. What angered Michel was when his ex-girlfriend began dating again, except she wasn't dating another man, she began dating Sherly. Neighbors say the lesbian relationship angered him.
Sherly said, "When Emmana found out we were girlfriend and girlfriend, he got mad. He say, 'You make my baby momma gay.' I say, 'I don't make her gay.'"
Michel gave the Pierre family the cold shoulder off and on for years. However, he maintained a cordial relationship with Saul Pierre -- Sam and Sherly's father. Saul was a hard-working and church-going family man.
Saul and his wife, Marie, continued a friendly relationship with the Michel family by attending family functions and parties. Saul even helped out Michel with car repairs and handy work.
But then, something went terribly wrong.
A Family Shattered
While the ongoing feud was troubling, there had been no violence between Michel and the Pierre family.
Sam Pierre said there was really only one bad incident. "One time I come home from work and Emmana and I have some kind of argument. For some reason he blocked my way. I just move out and leave it alone. He left."
But on January 6, 2011, the feud came to a head. Sam, who had moved out of his parents' home a year earlier, had come to visit his mom and dad that day. Sam pulled through the gate of his parents' home, parked and got out of his car. Soon after, Michel allegedly pulled his car up, blocking Sam in.
Sam's father, Saul, knowing his son and Michel had issues, decided to take the incident into his hands. Det. Jessica Alvarez of Miami Dade Police Department said Saul walked to Michel's passenger side window and asked him to move his car. Michel allegedly rolled up his window.
Then, Saul walked to the driver's window and asked Michel again to move his car. Det. Alvarez said Michel rolled down his window and fired at Saul hitting him in the upper body.
The Pierre family watched their father fall to the ground. Sam ran to his father's aid. Just then, police say Michel backed out of the driveway and fired again hitting Sam. Michel fled in his car while the family called 9-1-1.
Sam survived the shooting, while his father became a paraplegic for 11 months before passing away in November 2011. "It was sad," said Sam who watched his dad die.
Detectives have very little to go on. They know Michel drove a few blocks away from his neighborhood and ditched his car. A witness told police they saw Michel get into the backseat of a white Chevrolet Impala.
Thoughts? I was pretty upset by this case since the murder completely unnecessary. Regardless of the love affair, he seemed to hold a grudge with two people who had nothing to do with it for seemingly no reason. (no murder is EVER necessary. But this one seemed especially seemed so senseless.) I named Michel my 7th most wanted fugitive from AMW's Lifetime era.
It unfortunately seems difficult for AMW to find fugitives from the Caribbean. As we can see with Esnel Jean, Jean-Marie Jean-Francois and Andre Neverson. Michel doesn't seem especially too difficult to me to find if he's still in the states since he's young and into the nightlife and allegedly based on the re-enactment has a temper that may stand out. If he fled to Haiti or elsewhere in the Caribbean, I'm concerned. But if he stayed in the states, in my opinion, it's just a matter of time before he's found.
