A Domestic Disturbance Call
While officers never know what a routine call might involve, Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police had no idea that a domestic disturbance would eventually uncover a horrendous case of child molestation with not just one but two young victims.
On August 27, 2008, police arrested Cesar Moran after he allegedly hit his eleven-year-old stepdaughter, Sophia. Before they hauled him off to jail, Sophia's younger sister told police she had something to say.
Eight-year-old Cynthia told the officer that her stepfather touches her. When asked where, she pointed to her chest and vagina and began to cry. When the officer asked her when this happened, she said that Moran would wake her up, and then she began to talk about specific incidents. Within a few minutes, the older sister joined the conversation, and she told the officer that Moran had been molesting her too. And there would be more shocking news.
The Confession
According to police, while transporting Moran to jail, he suddenly said, "I did do it." When asked what he was talking about, he told the officer, "I touched them." Moran allegedly told the officer that he did touch the youngest girl before, wanting to show her exactly what he does with the girl's mother. According to the incident report, "She came into my room and asked me what me and her mom do at night in bed so I showed her. I shouldn't have to do it." It was just one sordid twist in this real life nightmare.
With the girls' accusations, police immediately removed both children from their home and began investigating the allegations of child molestation. After Moran's arrest on simple battery and cruelty to children charges, he posted bond. But within days, cops determined there was enough evidence to arrest him again, charging him with child molestation this time. Police say he promised to turn himself in, but he disappeared instead. He hasn't been seen since, and now cops say they're not even sure if Cesar Moran is his real name.
On The Run
Investigators say it's unclear if the girls' mother, Jeanifer Segrest, knew that her husband was molesting her daughters. But they say she did know about another man and his heinous crimes against them. Cops say Segrest helped set it up so that David Ray, a Marietta, Georgia resident, could molest her daughters in his own home. Police say Segrest received more than $50,000 from Ray for providing her young girls to him for sex.
Jeanifer Segrest is now wanted on charges of child molestation. Cops say she fled a few months after Moran disappeared and she hasn't seen her children since January 2010."
That of course, was the profile of one of the sickest crimes shown on AMW's season on Lifetime. The good news is Seagrest would soon be captured after her airing, becoming direct capture #1173 in Port Wentworth, Georgia on February 7th, 2012. The bad news is there is still one more fugitive we have to capture in this case, her husband Cesar Moran.
Moran was 26 years old at the old AMW's website's last update. He was said to be 5'3 and 175 lbs. In the U.S. his possible locations were listed as Texas and Georgia. Internationally, Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
Thoughts? As awesome as it was to see Seagrest arrested (and also embarrass herself during AMW's Walk of Shame segment with an Academy Award-winning performance of pretend ignorance), justice will not be complete until Moran is caught as well. I don't have the best of hopes with Guatemala or Honduras (the latter of which where AMW has never caught a fugitive as a direct capture, despite John Walsh's claims they have in some airings. Once again we love John Walsh and it's impossible to remember everything. We only know that's inaccurate because we're rabid fanatics of the show.
