LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The murder of a young Lawton woman who was killed and found lying in the road just south of Cache, remains a mystery nearly two years to the day of her death.
“On January the 16th, 2017, our family was forever changed. Our niece will forever be 21 years old,” said Carlotta Nowell, great aunt of the late Ci’Lina Deloney.
A passerby found Deloney’s body lying in the roadway on Northwest Paint Road. Investigators with the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department said she had been shot to death. Nearly two years later, the killer has yet to be found.
“Everything that we get or hear, we run down," said Comanche County Sheriff, Kenny Stradley. "We’ve had a few people that we’ve talked to and brought in and talked to. They gave us some information, but we don’t have enough to put together. We have some people that we’re looking at pretty hard. We’re looking for a vehicle. But right now, we still have not got enough to get an arrest warrant.”
Sheriff Stradley said if this turns into a cold case, they will seek out assistance from other departments and the OSBI.
“We’d like to solve this very, very much," said Sheriff Stradley. "And if that’s the case, and we need to bring them in, like I say, we’re running everything that we get, and every once in a while, we do get something and we do run it down. And we have a person of interest in mind, but we just don’t have enough to bring them in.”
On Sunday, Ci’Lina’s family visited her grave and also released red a purple balloons in her honor-- red symbolizing missing and murdered indigenous women, and purple representing domestic violence awareness. Ci’Lina’s niece also wrote a letter as a tribute to Ci’Lina...
“Unfortunately, a family never really recovers from an experience like this," said Angelina Steinmeyer. "We have lost a daughter, a sister, a mother, an auntie, and a niece. A person that we can never replace...”
Now, Ci’Lina’s family remembers the woman who loved life, loved to laugh, and brought joy to so many. They are pleading with the community to help get justice served.
“There’s no sense in hiding these people," said Renea Toahty, Ci’Lina’s mother. "They need to be brought to justice and taken off these streets for our children. Just keep our family in your prayers.”
