Teen's Rapist May Have Fled Hawaii
On a Sunday morning in August 2008, newspaper delivery supervisor Frank LeFrandt went with a 13-year-old paper carrier to pick up some editions of the Honolulu Advertiser. Afterward, they drove to a nearby 7-Eleven.
However, sometime after the stop, things took a horrific turn in the van.
The boy told police he fell asleep in Lefrandt's van when they went to pick up newspapers at the Honolulu Advertiser's Kapolei printing plant and when he awoke, Lefrandt was assaulting him.
Honolulu police arrested Lefrandt in the West Ridge Shopping Center parking lot after the boy's father called them.
LeFrandt ultimately pled guilty to second degree sexual assault charges. As part of his plea deal, he agreed to surrender to authorities and begin serving a 10-year prison sentence.
However, in December 2008, LeFrandt was due at the Oahu Community Correctional Center, but he never showed.
Days later, police discovered his car at the Honolulu airport.
LeFrandt's wife and child retrieved the vehicle but never put out a missing persons report. Police say LeFrandt has most likely fled to the mainland, but may have moved on to Mexico.
Thoughts? LeFrandt was the Hawaii fugitive on AMW's two last ever 50/50 specials on Fox back in 2011. (Off-topic but I hope The Hunt can find a way to bring that back on CNN)
Thanks to HeadMarshal, I learned a few interesting things about the case which is why I decided to post it today. There is a report from 2009 mentioning that even the US Marshals felt he likely died in Guatemala while hiking up a volcano. However, there is an Interpol Red Notice poster mentioning he is believed to be in the Netherlands and AMW did in fact air him twice two years after that potential death hike.
Also, further researching this, I found more interesting things in the Hawaii court case search website. In 2009, there were motions to reconsider the revoking of bail. In January and April of this year, there were for some reason requests to access court records. The first court motions since 2009.
Not sure what to think here, but Interpol and AMW seem to think he's still alive. His AMW profile specifically mentions the West coast as a possibility so I could definitely see him in California.
