Cops: Suspect Blows Through Stop Sign, Kills Innocent Man
On March 29, 2008, John and LeAnne Kauffman were driving through Windsor Township, Wis., just after 9 p.m., on their way back from nearby Madison.
The couple's blue Camaro had come upon a four-way stop sign -- and it was at that intersection that their lives changed forever.
According to witnesses, a gray Chevy pick-up truck "blew the stop sign," slamming into the driver's side of John's Camaro. The sheer force of the impact ejected John out of the car and into the shoulder of the northbound lane.
Though LeAnne survived the accident with two broken ribs and a concussion, her dear husband, John, died from his injuries within an hour of the crash.
Alcohol Possibly A Factor In Fatal Crash
When a witness emerged from his house, a mere 50 yards from the scene of the crash, he noticed a man running from the pickup truck. At first the witness thought the man was running to a nearby house to get help -- only he never stopped. He just kept running into a nearby field.
By the time cops arrived at the scene, the truck's driver was long gone. It didn't take them long to figure out who their suspect was, because not only was the pickup registered to Abraham Miranda-Arreola, but he'd left his cell phone on the dashboard as well.
Cops suspect Miranda-Arreola ran because he knew his goose was cooked. According to reports, the truck's interior reeked of alcohol, and beer bottles were strewn around the wreckage.
That night, cops brought in their canine unit, hoping to find Miranda-Arreola hiding in the field. Detectives thought he may have been seriously injured in the accident, but the canines were unable to track his scent.
The next morning, authorities expanded their search. They rode ATVs throughout the field where he was last seen headed, and even brought in a chopper to conduct an aerial search -- but their efforts went unrewarded.
Though the massive manhunt failed to bring in Miranda-Arreola, cops in Dane County, Wis., now need your help to hunt him down and bring closure to John Kauffman's grieving wife and family.
Despite Few Clues, Cops Hope To Nab Fugitive
Abraham Miranda-Arreola fled Windsor Township on the night of the crash and hasn't been seen since.
He and his wife have three young children together -- all of whom left the area within a few months of the accident. Cops believe his wife and kids may have relocated somewhere in Alabama.
Miranda-Arreola has more relatives in Las Vegas, but cops believe he could be anywhere, as they haven't been able to definitively locate him since the night of the deadly crash.
Since Miranda-Arreola was in the country illegally, authorities believe he may be living under an alias to avoid detection.
The morning after the accident, Miranda-Arreola never showed up for work at a local dairy farm, where he often fed and milked the livestock. Cops suspect he may try to continue working in the same industry, wherever he may be.
Thoughts? This was a web-exclusive case. I figured since The Hunt will profile Christopher Ponce, it was appropriate to highlight another fugitive wanted for a somewhat similar crime as well (although it sees alcohol is only suspected in this case as opposed to being in an official charge). I do wonder if Miranda-Arreola could have possibly joined his family if they did flee to Alabama. If not, perhaps he fled the country since he was here illegally.
