Dear Members, I have spent the last few hours pondering over all of the comments made concerning Cofer. Charlotte, I am so grateful that you chose to speak for your father. As family members of murder victims, it is difficult to get through each day without the constant reminder of how your loved one died, let alone, having to try to find the killer. My heart is hurting so deeply for Charlotte and her family today. I know exactly what she is feeling and I know exactly what she wants. Scumhunter, you have nothing to apologize for. You have always been a very kind and compassionate administrator. I know your position is difficult because, one, you do not know anyone who posts on these threads, and two, what they post may or may not be true. So please, never apologize for your comments, even if they are just speculation. We are all here for the same purpose, to find a killer. And your input is just as important from the outside as ours is from the inside. Mr. wd, when you read this, I want you to know that your input was extremely helpful. Although, I understand how Charlotte feels about Cofer and has her knowledge of him, you too have your knowledge as a neighbor. While talking to my family, we come to the conclusion that Cofer may have put on a psudo-profile when around different people. For instance, when around neighbors, family and friends, he may have had a completely calm, resourceful, laid back attitude. While around others, such as Mr. Buchanan, he was defensive, outspoken, arrogant, and violent. It is your story that helps build a profile of who Cofer really is and helps us build detailed profile for the public to search for. I know Charlotte hates the thought that anyone would think that Cofer might portray himself as anything but a cold hearted killer. However, if Cofer did live a double lifestyle, then it is important to include this in his detailed profile, otherwise, the public will not look for him in this second self. But even I have made comments that may have been read wrong. I made a comment when I first became a member that although Cofer murdered Mr. Buchanan, a veteran, he murdered my father first and he was also a veteran and therefore should be tried for my father's murder first. At the time I made that comment, I, like many, were under the assumption that Mr. Buchanan's murder was an accident where he was hit in the head and the gun went off, where as, my father was shot in the face and stuffed in the trunk of his car. I was also upset that AMW had aired Mr. Buchanan's murder, highlighting he was a veteran, but my father was considered a nobody and was receiving no attention. I was not angry at Mr. Buchanan's family, just the world itself for not trying to find my father's killer. It was a cold case and I thought he had been forgotten. So, to Charlotte, if you read this and thought it was directed to you or your family, please accept my apologies. It was never meant for your family. It was a moment of grieving. Your insight today has played an initial role in my recognizing and piecing much of the information I have together. By the way, I served as a skip tracer for many years and have this "knack" for tracking, so this information isn't just going into a scrap book. What I want to finalize on this post is that, even the smallest piece of information can become a great contribution to a case. Sometimes, it may seem contrary to what you may know or believe to be true, but that is how things work in the mind of a killer. You must expect the unexpected. You must believe the unbelievable. You must search for the unknown. You must think like a killer. It is the only way to find them. I know this is raw. I know this hits home for most of you. But when it comes to murder, it is raw. It hits the very core of your soul. We as fighter's for those lost must remain strong and linked together so that nothing can keep this killer from going free. Thank you for listening, thank you for your thoughts, thank you for being here. Deborah Sperling-Phillips

I think this case shows why it's so frustrating AMW is not on the air anymore. I can guarantee you Deborah that had the show not been cancelled, David's murder would have DEFINITELY been mentioned on AMW since they always aired any new updates on fugitive cases. So many people are unfortunately crime victims and there really isn't an outlet like AMW to turn to anymore. (Walsh's new show is very good but limited in its' capacity compared to AMW.) John Walsh has stated he had to turn down 1,000 cases a week when he was the host. There are so many requests and not enough air time. Charlotte and her family managed to get Larry's case on the air, but as she stated, they had to fight and scratch to get the attention in the first place. Much like you are doing for David now. I realize we don't have the reach the show did but I'm glad this forum at least can keep these cases in the spotlight. So while I feel you don't need the advice since you seem to be doing everything you can already, I would say to just continue everything you've already been doing. Unfortunately, not every crime or missing person/child victim gets the attention for their loved one they feel may be deserved, but it's the ones that fight like hell to do so that have a much better shot.

I appreciate the kind words of everyone. Today has been very emotional. Friday the 13th for some reason has always been harder than September 13th. I guess because I used to laugh it off. I realize that mr. I wd wasn't trying to be cruel. I had not thought of the double persona. It's hard because you don't want the victom put on trial. Deborah, I sent you a personal message. If you have questions privately, please reply back. My family will help any way we can. There are a bunch of Buchanans in okc that would like to find closure. A common thread between most of the men envolved is that most of them worked on planes at Tinker.

Charlotte,
First and foremost, please accept my apologies if I have upset you and your family in any way, shape or form.
By reaching out to this forum, I only want to share anything additional that can be weighed. I wanted to ensure that my perspective was out there because what was out there was not entirely how "I" processed my observations, encounters and personal conversations. I'm not trying to stand up for him, I only want to ensure that everyone knows that when I knew him, this is how he portrayed himself to me.
Perhaps Cofer had a different tone for me since I was active duty at the time. With that said, my perspective on his 9/11 rant was anti-policy versus anti-American. Ultimately, I cannot speak to what the exchange was between Cofer, your Dad or any other parties and I hope that I have not come across that way. I had been led to believe that Cofer was unnerved and that generalized mentality wasn't that far off before he murdered your Dad.
I just have that gut feeling that he could be in any little bar somewhere, watching what's going on in the world today, and feeling the urge to share "his" thoughts on why the West shouldn't be surprised. And that thought chaps my a** that he's still out there rather then being held accountable for his actions.
I've traveled the world and have had some conversations with some squirrelly people and I remember them. I would hope that my perspective of that singular topic, on a singular day, may ring a bell with someone else that may have had a similar experience.
Once again I hope that I have not upset you or your family and I truly hope he is brought to justice, sooner rather then later.
Respectfully, WD2

WD2, I appreciate your response. The case has been dormate for so many years, that I was shocked when I looked it up to explain to a new friend why I hate Friday 13th so much. Your insight as to how he may be hiding in plain sight, was difficult because it's so personal. I live in a community where there was a horrible car jacking of 2 college students who were tortured and murdered. The families of the students have been thru hell during the multiple trials and retrials that last 10 years. Our community still does fundraisers annually to help pay legal costs. Like I have told Deborah, the Buchanan family will help any way we can to find Cofer. Charlotte

Hi Deborah,
I hope you don't mind but I checked the Facebook page you linked to earlier to see if there were any new updates in this case and saw The Hunt is interested in potentially profiling Cofer. This is great news for both you and Charlotte!
I was really hoping The Hunt would consider this case for a future season as well. All it takes is one person watching to catch this guy.

Thank you Scumhunter for posting, that would be outstanding if Cofer is profiled again to the mass media. I hope this message finds Deborah & Charlotte well. Respectfully, WD2

I will email him and ask for you and hopefully I get a response back. Did you get a response back? Any age enhanced sketches of him published in the local newspapers and shown on the local tv chanels?

Yes, I hate to refer to him in third person again but wd2 who is a forum member here, has posted earlier in this thread and will hopefully post again if he has any more insights, is a former neighbor of Cofer's (before Cofer went on the run) that I was corresponding with.
Underneath the photo on the first both are age-enhanced digitalized sketches done by a well-respected sketch artist (Randall Sands) for Deborah's personal Facebook page (our fellow forum poster finddavidskiller, once again sorry for the third person). I have no idea if these sketches were even shown on the news but The Hunt is possibly profiling Cofer next season and hopefully will include age-enhanced photos if they choose to profile him.

Anyone know what's going on? The Hunt with John Walsh was supposed to profile Cofer on the October 29th episode but now I see a different episode on a tv guide website listed and he's no longer on the show's tip form. Hope this just means they re-scheduled episode for another date.
Deborah, Charlotte, if you still read our site, I hope The Hunt is still going to profile him this season to help towards finally getting justice.

Charlotte,
if you read this, I'm glad The Hunt finally profiled the search for Cofer once more. I realize that both here and on the show you have disputed the facts of some aspects of what went down that fateful day and what some neighbors say, but as John Walsh stated, regardless, Cofer brought a pistol with a safety off to a fight against a man who was not in the best of health and should not have been regarded as a threat to his life. Regardless of whether he "intentionally" shot Buffalo or not, he is responsible and imo criminally responsible for his death.
Deborah,
I'm a little shocked they did not mention your stepfather's murder. I realize Cofer is only a potential suspect but I'm sorry if you're disappointed. I assume perhaps they had a reason to not mention but I personally was disappointed they couldn't have done a longer profile and discussed David as well.
Still, I hope the episode helps to catch Cofer. I hope if he is captured, he will be punished if convicted for killing Larry, and I also hope that it will clear up once and for all whether he had anything to do with David's murder and/or if they can move on to other suspects.
